Another lily... I'm so happy with this series.

Let's see, what changes have I made... I upped the color--a lot. I don't think it ruins the picture, but tell me if you think it looks unnatural. I like the brightness that the change gives the photo. I also used the healing brush tool (for the first time!) to remove some pollen that I felt took away from the smoothness of the petals.

It's funny, my photos almost never come out this clear. Most of the time my hand moves at the wrong moment and I get a blur that interferes with any plans for careful photoshop editing. Makes me wish I had played more with a background, or maybe tried some difficult transition over a gradient. This photo definitely involves less fading into the background than easter lily [link] ... the latter is quieter by far.

how did you shoot this? in a controlled environtment? its such a good shot easyily something of the callabre of the shot you see on calanders and photography books :)
:iconpoetsoul:
No controlled environment. Lighting was a major detail, I got one of those indirect-lighting lamps and put it right under the flowers. Then, in photoshop, I edited out all but the flower and replaced it with black.

awesome i have always wanted to do that exact process but all attempts have been a failure so far.. how did you do it? feather the selection?
:iconpoetsoul:
All you need to do is use the magnetic lasso tool (hold down on the lasso tool button and it's the third on the list.) That thing cuts very close, so you might end up losing a few pixels' thickness of your subject. It's worth it though, you end up with a very sharp edge. Outline your subject with magnetic lasso, then use the normal lasso to clean up any sections that the magnetic screwed up ( the tool isn't the perfect tool by any means.) Then create a layer beneath your editing layer. Go to Select<Inverse (make sure you're on your editing layer) and then hit delete. Your lower layer will show through the gaps and you've got a lovely crispe-edged whateveritisthatyou'reworkingon. :)

Was that any help?

i never use the lasso tool (magnetic) i prefer the pen tool for cutting out.. takes longer but my gosh its accurate. i will give the blacking technique another try (last ime was like 4 years ago) and maybe submitt something simmiler to easter lilly.. :)
:iconpoetsoul:
:) If it was very similar we could link the lillies to each other. Get some sort of "Lilly Ring" going on. That'd be pretty macho, right?
